"TAIKOPROJECT - this ain't your mama's taiko, but it may be your hip, younger cousin's."
L.A. Weekly, Los Angeles, CA
"With an artful blending of music, theater, choreography, costumes and set design, TAIKOPROJECT immersed the audience in a special world where traditions of the past inspire art of the present."
Mitch Glickman, Los Angeles County Museum of Art
"TAIKOPROJECT is one of the most exciting next generation ensembles playing today. They play with sheer pleasure and consummate skill, telling a story of taiko that is deeply personal and recognizably universal."
Marty Wolleson, UCSD Art Power! La Jolla, CA
TAIKOPROJECT is recongnized as one of the leading "now generation" American taiko ensembles and programs today. Founded in 2000 in Los Angeles by a group of young, emerging taiko drummers seeking to create a truly American style of taiko, TAIKOPROJECT blends traditional forms with an innovative and fresh aesthetic approach to the Japanese drum.
TAIKOPROJECT is the first foreign taiko group awarded a First Place at the 2005 Tokyo International Taiko Contest, topping all the Japanese groups in the competition.
Over the years, they have become the highest-profile taiko ensembles, appearing on the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards, The Voice, The X-Factor, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan, and the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
TAIKOPROJECT has performed and recorded with some of the world's most well-known musical artists, including Stevie Wonder, Usher, Justin Bieber, Kanya West, John Legend, Alicia Keyes, Xzibit, A.R. Rahman, Sean Paul, Diplo, and 30 Seconds to Mars.
Besides maintaining a performing ensemble and touring world-wide, TAIKOPROJECT's program includes leading and instructing Los Angeles community based Bombu Taiko and youth group, Kitsune Taiko.
